When a homeowner in Wollaton came to A & J Granite Solutions Ltd looking to transform their kitchen, the brief was clear: luxurious, modern, and built to last. The result is one of our most striking recent installations, featuring Calacatta Sahara Fugenstone Quartz worktops, paired with seamless full-height splashbacks that turn a functional kitchen into something truly special.

The Stone: Calacatta Sahara Fugenstone Quartz

Calacatta Sahara is a beautifully crafted quartz surface that captures everything people love about natural marble, without the maintenance demands that come with it. Its crisp white base is swept through with bold, flowing veins in warm gold and taupe, giving any space an elegant, high-end feel that is both timeless and contemporary.

For this Wollaton project, the customer chose Fugenstone Quartz in the Calacatta Sahara finish, a surface known for its refined appearance and excellent durability, making it well suited to the demands of a busy family kitchen.

Worktop Layout & Configuration

The worktops were laid in an L-shaped configuration, wrapping around the kitchen to make the most of the available counter space. This layout works particularly well in modern open-plan kitchens, giving a generous working area while keeping the visual flow of the room clean and uncluttered.

The Splashbacks: A Seamless Statement

The standout feature of this installation is undoubtedly the full-height quartz splashbacks. Rather than opting for tiles or a painted finish, the customer chose to continue the Calacatta Sahara slab from the worktop surface directly up the wall, creating an uninterrupted flow of stone from counter to ceiling.

This approach, known as slab-matched veining, takes considerable skill to achieve well. The veins in the stone are carefully aligned so that the pattern carries continuously from the horizontal worktop surface into the vertical splashback above it, with no visible break or interruption. The effect is striking and is widely regarded as a hallmark of high quality stone work.

The Kitchen Design: Warmth Meets Contemporary Style

The quartz sits alongside handleless light grey and greige base units with integrated drawers, paired with light oak-effect wall cabinets above. The tonal balance between these cabinet choices and the warm gold and taupe veining in the Calacatta Sahara is what gives this kitchen its cohesion.

Nothing in the room competes with the stone. Instead, every element of the cabinetry and the overall design complements it, allowing the quartz to take centre stage. The finished kitchen is sophisticated and contemporary without feeling cold, striking a balance between warmth and luxury that works particularly well in a family home.
