We recently completed a beautiful kitchen worktop installation for a homeowner in Mapperley, Nottingham, using Elegance Michelangelo quartz from the Compac range.

The project covered a large kitchen island with a waterfall end, a long sink run beneath the garden window and matching upstands, bringing a soft marble look to a bright open plan living space.

The Brief: Light, Elegant & Practical

Our client wanted worktops that would suit their new shaker style cabinetry, painted in a soft putty tone and finished with brushed brass bar handles.

They loved the look of Italian marble but needed a surface that could cope with busy family life and plenty of daily cooking. After talking through the options and viewing samples, they chose Elegance Michelangelo.

The Material: Elegance Michelangelo Quartz

Michelangelo has a bright white background with delicate grey veining and subtle flecks of warm gold and taupe running through it.

These warmer tones pair perfectly with brass hardware, making it an ideal match for this kitchen. As a quartz surface, it is nonporous, highly resistant to staining and scratching, and needs no sealing, meaning our client can enjoy the appearance of marble without the upkeep.

The Installation Process

Measuring & Templating

Once the cabinets were fitted, we visited the property to take precise templates of every run. Accurate templating is essential on a project like this, particularly where there are cut outs for hobs and sinks, and where veining needs to flow naturally across mitred edges.

Manufacturing In Our Workshop

Back at our Nottingham workshop, we cut and finished each piece, planning the layout so the most attractive areas of veining sit in the most visible places. Every piece was checked for accuracy before leaving our premises.

The Island: A Waterfall Finish

The centrepiece of the kitchen is the island, which houses a black induction hob with a built in downdraft extractor and a black oven set into the end cabinet.

We finished the island with a waterfall end panel, where the quartz continues from the worktop down to the floor in one clean line.

The corner is mitred so the veining wraps around the edge, giving the impression of a single solid block of stone.

Sunlight falls across the polished surface, and the island sits beautifully against the oak effect herringbone flooring and neutral sofas in the adjoining lounge.

Sink Run & Grooved Drainer

Along the back wall, beneath a large black framed window overlooking the garden, we installed a long run of worktop with a white undermounted 1.5 bowl sink.

To keep the surface clean and seamless, we machined grooved drainer channels directly into the quartz beside the sink, so there is no need for a separate draining board.

A brushed brass boiling water tap sits behind the sink, and we fitted a matching quartz upstand along the wall, plus a quartz window sill that ties everything together neatly.

Splashbacks / Showroom Display

Michelangelo also works wonderfully as a full height splashback. In our Bestwood showroom, we have a display showing the material running from worktop to wall units behind a black gas hob, with LED lighting beneath the cabinets picking out the veining.

It is a great way for customers to see how the stone looks across a larger area, and how it pairs with both light grey and darker charcoal cabinetry.

The Finished Kitchen

The result is a bright, calm and elegant kitchen that feels luxurious yet practical enough for everyday living. Our client was delighted with the finish, particularly the waterfall island, which has become the focal point of the room.

Every worktop we supply comes with our aftercare service and a 5 year warranty, giving lasting peace of mind.
