A & J Granite Solutions Ltd were recently commissioned to supply and install a large statement kitchen island worktop at a residential property in Newthorpe, Nottingham. 

The client was undertaking a high-end kitchen renovation and wanted a premium engineered quartz surface that would serve as the centrepiece of a spacious open-plan kitchen.

The Stone:  Forest Sughero By Quartzforms

Forest Sughero is a premium engineered quartz manufactured in Germany by Quartzforms, one of the established brands supplied by A & J Granite Solutions Ltd. 

The stone features a warm white and cream base with elegant, flowing grey veining and subtle amber and golden tones that run throughout the surface. Finished to a high-gloss polish, the depth and movement within the stone is brought fully to life, giving the worktop a luxurious, almost jewel-like quality in the right light.

The Island Design & Key Features

This is far from a straightforward worktop installation. The island was designed as a true centrepiece, incorporating a number of high-specification features that demanded precise fabrication and careful installation throughout.

Full-Height Waterfall End Panel

One of the most striking design details of this project is the full-height waterfall end panel. Rather than finishing at worktop height, the Forest Sughero quartz continues seamlessly down the end face of the island all the way to the floor. 

The result is a dramatic, uninterrupted flow of stone that draws the eye and gives the island a sculptural, furniture-like quality. Achieving a seamless waterfall detail of this kind requires careful slab selection and expert fabrication, so that the veining carries through naturally from the horizontal surface to the vertical panel.

Precision Cut-Outs & Integrated Features

The worktop surface incorporates several precision cut-outs, each requiring careful templating and accurate machine fabrication. These include a large induction hob flush-set into the surface, an integrated downdraft extractor unit and a flush-fitted pop-up power socket and utility module.

The Finished Kitchen

The island sits within a generous open-plan kitchen that opens out towards large windows and bi-fold doors overlooking the garden, meaning natural light floods the space throughout the day. This works beautifully with the high-gloss polished finish of the Forest Sughero, with the reflective surface catching and moving light around the room as the day progresses. 

Light oak-effect flooring, pendant lights overhead and shaker-style cabinetry in a soft grey and white painted finish with chrome knob handles all complement the warm tones of the stone, resulting in a kitchen that feels cohesive, considered and genuinely luxurious.
